The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Chose the Wrong Popular RPG Show Track

This latest animated series, the most recent animated series from Critical Role, unveiled an exciting opening credits. It features the beloved cast of misfits, misfits, and criminals kicking ass and making their mark, while teasing at several heart-wrenching backstories for characters including the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, the character Fjord.

Overall, the opening appears stunning. However, I felt that an element was lost in the music selection.

The intro employs "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional composition composed by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. This piece originating from the official score of the same name, the second one put out by the production company's record label their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic option, and I believe that fans of the sequel series will love its inclusion.

Personally, The Mighty Nein's opening doesn't quite capture the hype and excitement that accompanied the show's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit in my view when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it improved further when cast member the performer added lyrics to the melody for the series' animated intro in the later year.

Including singing from one actress, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the track was memorable and fun. Back then, I hadn't even watched the second campaign yet, but this was such an earworm that I still saved it on my device. It's a song that excites you before you dive into an episode of fantasy hijinks.

The Mighty Nein's opening with "the new song" fails to hit the right notes in my opinion. It's a grand piece of music, but from what I know of this party, I can't help but feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.

Of course, Critical Role has stated that the animated show will have a few changes and differences from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its intro seems to be among these.

This animated adventure will be available to watch on the streaming service from November 19. For those eager before that, or wish to prepare to learn about the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are accessible on the audio platform and YouTube.
