The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Could Fix That

Whenever a major awards ceremony draws close, you'll find a clamor for the addition of new categories to honor unsung work and delight the hearts of fans with niche passions.

A fellow writer has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. The same goes for strategy board titles, which is a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward just as with other blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification supporting my request stands as crucial above others. Here's the proposal: We need a category for puzzle games.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and it will always generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. But it is a necessary evil within the realm of gaming, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify one unified medium.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies currently feature genre categories for Action, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these six categories successfully include many game types, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles in a particular game, intense tile-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games published annually without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked for anything in 2014
  • Another creative title was excluded that year
  • Well-received sorting experience got ignored in 2021
  • Only a few puzzle games scraped into small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're modest productions, yet the craft of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games stand as most engaged experiences in the world and have been for many years.

The famous puzzle experience challenges famous sandbox experiences for the title of highest-selling title ever; it additionally competes as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and engaging with almost every other genre.

Proposal and Rationale

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. You could fill a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these include experiences that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers are working at the demanding boundary of video game design, developing some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait decades.
