The Blue Jays Claim World Series Matchup Against Los Angeles Dodgers
George Springer was instrumental for the Astros securing the World Series in the 2017 season.
Toronto's Blue Jays earned a spot in their initial Fall Classic since 1993 by beating the Seattle Mariners in the seventh game seven of the AL Championship Series.
Behind 3-1, the star outfielder smashed a three-run home run in the seventh inning, guiding the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 win in the seven-game series. Next up are the Los Angeles Dodgers, holders of the reigning title, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.
"It's incredible for everyone here, our city, Canada," commented Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 title. "What an incredible feeling."
George Springer has now hit twenty-three playoff homers, placing him third on the list behind Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).
"It's hard to imagine another person on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that situation besides George Springer with his playoff prowess," noted Schneider.
Seattle's team, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, continue to be the only MLB franchise never to appear in a World Series.
Wilson commented "there's no question that it's painful" in the wake of his team's loss at their home ballpark, but applauded their efforts in the campaign.
"It's a special team. Sadly that we ended up on the losing end of this game," he remarked.
Toronto claimed the title on both previous visits in the early 90s, and will host the Los Angeles in game one on the upcoming Friday.
