Physical Health or World Standing - Katie Boulter's Melbourne Grand Slam Predicament

Tennis player Katie Boulter
Katie Boulter has slipped from 23rd to 100th in the international ratings in the current season

British Katie Boulter states she believes she has to "decide between my physical health and my professional position" as the competition persists for a place in January's Australian Open primary competition.

While the regular WTA Tour season is completed, there are still ranking points to be gained in Latin American countries, neighboring countries, Ecuador and European destinations.

The women's competitor lineup for the initial Grand Slam of the forthcoming season will be determined by the global standings of 8 December, which could create a difficult choice for athletes approaching the cut.

Health Challenges

Previous British leading competitor Boulter suffered an hip muscle in her last tournament of the year in international locations last period, and is now evaluating whether to compete in the WTA 125 Challenger event in French locations, the continental destination, in the opening days of December.

Boulter's ongoing health concern, and the situation she would need to achieve at least multiple victories in the European event to improve her position, means she may probably end up not participating.

Different Systems

In contrast, male athletes are not experiencing the equivalent situation, as for the initial instance the men's Australian Open entry list will be established from this week's standings, which is the ATP's official season-concluding ranking date.

The change is designed to discouraging athletes from pursuing standing points during what is essentially the break period.

Professional Adjustments

This year has been a demanding one for Boulter.

She won only 14 professional major tournament contests and recently parted ways with instructor Biljana Veselinovic after a lengthy collaboration in which she secured three WTA titles.

"Biljana is an exceptional instructor, and an remarkably quality individual as well, which makes things particularly challenging," Boulter stated.

The quest for a different coach is well under way, looking for an individual who has elite experience as Boulter still believes she can be a world-class player.

Professional Aspirations

"Going forward with a replacement instructor, a key aspect I'm very clear on is that they are going to be someone who has extensive expertise in how to make it to the peak performance of this sport," she explained.

"I've been ranked as high as 23 and I believe I can return to that position. I am not convinced my standard has disappeared, I believe the consistency must develop.

"My aim is not merely to be ranked 50, forty, 30, twenty - we've been there. The goal is to be within the top twenty."
