LA Faces Historic Heat Only Days Following Severe Winter Weather.
Following a week of significant rainfall that resulted in floodwaters across sections of the city, LA is now grappling with abnormally hot temperatures for this time of year.
Record-Setting Temperatures
On Friday midday, the mercury soared to ninety-one degrees Fahrenheit in central LA, according to meteorologists. This breaks the previous daily record for this date, which was eighty-eight degrees Fahrenheit and was recorded in 2025.
"Unusually high temperatures" were highlighted on NWS graphics for the region.
Safety Advisories
The weather service stated that Friday's weather posed an "higher threat for heat illness" for vulnerable populations. Their recommendations included:
- Keeping well-hydrated.
- Limiting outdoor activities during the peak heat of the day.
- Not leaving anyone unattended in a hot car.
A Sharp Reversal
This sharp rise in heat comes on the heels of a massive winter storm that pummeled the area recently. That event unleashed heavy snow, strong winds, and thunderstorms to higher elevations, causing mudslide risks for many residents.
Sadly, the storm also triggered a massive avalanche in the Lake Tahoe area, which resulted in nine fatalities.
Forecast Ahead
Forecasters predict a cooldown is expected. Readings were predicted to fall to around 61°F (16°C) in downtown LA by late Friday.
Other locales that experienced 90°F included Woodland Hills, Long Beach, and Burbank. Elsewhere, Oxnard, Westwood, Camarillo, and Santa Maria were forecast to see the upper eighties.
In the coming days, downtown LA can see weather in the eighties, with a further cooldown on tap for the week ahead.
