'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith renews contest with Pep's side.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he remembers the thrilling closing stages of his team's remarkable turnaround victory against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. That match culminated with Galbraith briefly donning a supporter's spectacles after the pitch-side pile-on.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a powerful effort from 25 yards, and Cameron Burgess immediately converted the loose ball before racing off toward the crowd to mark the goal, with the crowd mobbing the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

This sealed an unbelievable turnaround given Swansea had been behind 2-0 midway through the second half. Amid the euphoria, there was some unintended consequences. Galbraith explained, "There was a spectator shouting out and we were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're individuals, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The victory booked a fourth-round match at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, a club Galbraith ran close at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with the London side in February. He had a prime vantage point when the underdogs took the lead in remarkable manner, with Jamie Donley's first-time shot from about way out going in via the crossbar and the Stefan Ortega. It seems unfair that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've awarded it to him for taking the effort on from that far out," commented Galbraith, who began the game centrally before switching to right flank after they changed formation. That meant facing off against Jack Grealish, with whom he traded tops, and the winger was among the Manchester squad who paid tribute to the way his former team approached the match.

Opponent's Class

"Athletically they are outstanding but even the simple things and routine actions, they can just perform consistently," the midfielder notes. "It seems as if they never miss a pass and they are adept at control and take the sting out of a game. You can believe you're holding your own and then without warning they will just thread a ball between defenders without you even noticing. You have to be alert at all times of the game. It takes a tough attitude and concentration just to remain competitive."

Swansea Move

Swansea pushed to sign Galbraith in January and beat off competition to secure him in the summer in a significant move. He became a favorite as a popular figure across multiple campaigns at Orient and has swiftly done the same in his new home. At his previous team he linked up again with the coach, who four years ago gave Galbraith his first extended run in senior football on loan at a League One side from United. Then came a loan at League Two Salford City, before he permanently left Old Trafford.

Growth Journey

"I was probably a somewhat inexperienced going into senior level. I think many athletes would say under-23s football is completely distinct. Sometimes it seems possession is exchanged without much intensity. There are limited physical contests. Once you start playing first-team football you have to learn quickly."

International Recognition

His progress reflects that development for his team and nation, excelling for the Green and White Army, who remain in contention for the World Cup next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has been selected in the recent fixtures, including home and away fixtures against a football powerhouse. His former international manager, Galbraith's former international manager, gave him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he handles the football and his eye for a decisive through ball.

Early Days

This represents an incredible journey for the player from the Queens Park estate in his hometown, just outside Belfast, who grew up watching his dad, his father, also a engine room operator, play for his father's team.

Old Trafford Memory

The player's single match for the Red Devils came in the away trip in 2019, a Europa League trip to the Kazakh capital, where they competed on an artificial pitch and the arena covering was sealed owing to conditions of -15C. "That proved to be a extended travel and it was freezing," he says, grinning. "The week before, several youth players and I trained together, so that assisted our preparation. Just to join the main group and get a couple of minutes at the end was unbelievable."

Departing Old Trafford

What was the challenge was it to leave United, the club he joined from Linfield aged 16? "It was relatively straightforward, because I got to the stage where I realized I wasn't going to make it at the senior squad. I'm extremely thankful for the time I spent there but it got to the point where I thought I required a fresh start, drop down the leagues and play first-team games. Now I'm gradually progressing again."

Welsh Adaptation

It is the early part of the afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has a commitment at the early evening: a driving theory test, another progress toward getting on the road. Until recently to his new neighborhood, the mid-twenties player was a constant rider in Swansea's so-called player transport, a small coach driven by team personnel, the transport team, which transports players to and from practice and games.

"My companions include Gonçalo Franco, Ronald, an Ivorian player – a former passenger used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's enjoyable to spend time with the lads but I'm aiming to be the following person out of the minibus and behind the wheel. His teammate is known for his humor; he's always up to all sorts."

Fan Interactions

When he represented Leyton Orient, Galbraith would travel alongside supporters on the Tube after starting his journey at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
